The weekend started like any other in the neighborhood, but it ended in absolute heartbreak for a local family. Early Saturday morning, a quiet residential home turned into a scene of utter chaos and tragedy. Neighbors woke up to the sound of sirens echoing through the dark streets as emergency lights flashed against the houses. Inside the house, a young life was violently slipping away. Rhion Stanford was only 20 years old when his life came to a sudden, devastating end.

It all went down around 4:20 a.m. on Saturday, July 18. The local police received an urgent 911 call reporting gunfire inside a home on the 800 block of Garfield Avenue. When the first officers rushed through the front door, they found a nightmare waiting for them. Rhion was lying inside a bedroom, bleeding heavily from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. The officers immediately jumped into action to try and save him.

First responders did everything they could right there on the bedroom floor. They frantically administered first aid, trying to stabilize the young man as the ambulance pulled up. Canton firefighters arrived moments later and rushed Rhion to Aultman Hospital. Doctors and medical staff took over, fighting against the clock to pull him back from the brink. Sadly, his injuries were just too severe, and Rhion passed away a short time later.

The news of Rhion’s sudden death hit the community like a tidal wave. Family, friends, and neighbors are completely crushed by the loss of someone so young. People remember him as a kind soul who brought joy into every room he walked into. The unexpected tragedy has left a massive hole in the hearts of everyone who grew up alongside him. Now, his loved ones are holding tightly to the good memories they shared.

As the family grieved, investigators were already piecing together what happened in that bedroom. They did not have to look very far to find a key piece of the puzzle. While officers were processing the crime scene, a call came in from a nearby hospital. A second man had just walked into the emergency room with gunshot wounds of his own. Detectives immediately headed over to check out the new lead.

The man at the hospital was identified as 28-year-old Amondo T. M. Cole. Police say Cole sustained his injuries during the exact same shooting incident on Garfield Avenue. Investigators waited patiently at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospital until the medical staff cleared him. As soon as Cole was released from medical care, detectives placed him under arrest. He was transported straight to the jail house without any further incident.

Cole is now sitting behind bars at the Stark County Jail, facing a heavy charge of murder. Meanwhile, Rhion’s friends and family are trying to make sense of a completely senseless act. They are demanding justice for a young man who had his whole life ahead of him. The investigation is still very active, and police are asking anyone with info to come forward. For now, a grieving mother and a broken community are left mourning a boy who went to sleep and never woke up.
