It was a quiet Sunday morning when a sudden tragedy turned a family’s world completely upside down. Andre Akin, a 33-year-old resident of Buffalo, New York, lost his life in a devastating crash on the New York State Thruway. His unexpected passing left loved ones and friends deeply heartbroken as they struggle to process a life cut far too short.

The terrible scene unfolded around 4:30 a.m. on Interstate 90 eastbound in the town of Evans. Andre was behind the wheel of his 2023 Kia sedan, traveling through the early morning stillness. What started as a routine drive quickly turned fatal when his car drifted from the passing lane into the main driving lane.

As the Kia drifted, it collided directly with a massive 2025 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The heavy impact pushed both vehicles off the roadway and onto the south shoulder. The force of the crash sent both the car and the big rig crashing violently into the steel guide rail along the highway.

In a tragic turn of events, the tractor-trailer sheared off part of the heavy guide rail upon impact. The loose steel rail then impaled Andre’s Kia. First responders rushed to the scene as fast as they could, but despite their best efforts, Andre was pronounced dead right there at the crash site.

The news of Andre’s death hit the Buffalo community with overwhelming grief. Friends and family remember him as someone whose presence brought warmth and joy to those around him. People who knew Andre are holding onto every memory, finding comfort in the special moments they shared with a man who truly valued everyone in his life.

State Police troopers, collision reconstruction teams, and local emergency crews worked for hours at the scene to piece together what happened. Eastbound traffic was shut down and diverted at Exit 57A near Eden-Angola to allow investigators to clear the wreckage safely.

Though Andre is no longer here, his memory will live on through the many lives he touched. Life can change in a single second, and his passing stands as a painful reminder of how precious every moment really is. Rest in peace, Andre Akin—your memory will never be forgotten.
