Lamont Chambers was just doing his job on a quiet Sunday morning when everything went wrong. The 59-year-old Albany resident was behind the wheel of a Suburban Transportation vehicle, navigating the empty streets. It was supposed to be a routine patrol shift. Instead, it became his final moments on earth.

Around 12:37 a.m., something happened that caused Chambers to lose complete control of his vehicle. The large transportation vehicle veered off course and slammed violently into a building. That building happened to be the main headquarters of Transfinder, located at 440 State Street.

Schenectady police officers were out on routine patrol when they stumbled upon the horrific scene. They found the vehicle smashed into the exterior of the tech company’s headquarters. Inside the wreckage, Chambers was sitting severely injured and unresponsive.

First responders rushed to the scene within minutes to save him. Paramedics pulled Chambers out of the mangled vehicle and immediately started emergency medical treatment. They desperately tried to stabilize him before rushing him to Ellis Hospital. Sadly, his injuries were too severe, and doctors pronounced him dead shortly after arrival.

Investigators now believe that the crash itself might not have been what killed him. Preliminary reports suggest Chambers may have suffered a sudden, massive heart attack while driving. This medical crisis likely caused him to black out, leaving the vehicle completely out of control before the impact.

By Monday morning, the physical reminders of the tragedy were clear to anyone passing by State Street. A massive protective tarp covered the shattered facade of the Transfinder building. Bright yellow police tape blocked off the area as investigators continued to piece together the final seconds of Chambers’ life.

The community and the company are now mourning the unexpected loss. Transfinder CEO Antonio Civitella reached out publicly to share his deep sadness and send prayers to Chambers’ family. Multiple local agencies are still working hard to get definitive answers about this heartbreaking accident.
