A simple flat tire along a busy road turned into an absolute nightmare for an Ohio family. Liberty Coleman, Storm Coleman, Legacy “Ace” Coleman, Stone Coleman, and their grandmother, Candace McAllister, all lost their lives in a heartbreaking accident. The family was just hanging out inside their parked car, waiting for a little help to arrive. Instead, a silent, deadly danger sneaked up on them without any warning.
The whole tragedy went down on a Wednesday afternoon in the 300 block of Phillips Avenue. This area sits right near Detroit Avenue in northwestern Ohio, not far from the Michigan border. The family pulled over to the side of the road after one of their tires went completely flat. With nowhere else to go and the weather rolling in, they stayed inside the vehicle to keep warm and safe while waiting for backup.
Nobody knew that toxic fumes were slowly filling up the inside of the car. Investigators later discovered that the air inside the vehicle was packed with carbon monoxide. In fact, the gas levels reached a terrifying milestone, measuring about five times the lethal limit. The family did not even realize they were breathing in a quiet killer while sitting by the roadside.
The situation became real when the children’s father finally pulled up to help change the tire. He walked up to the car and found everyone inside completely passed out and unresponsive. Panic set in immediately, and he dialed 911 right away to get emergency crews to the scene. First responders rushed over and tried everything they could to bring the family back, but the damage was already done.
This loss has completely broken the hearts of the local community. The children’s mother, Adriana Coleman, shared sweet memories of her babies who were always stuck together like glue. She remembered Liberty as a natural-born leader who always took care of the rest of the crew. Storm was the sister who looked up to Liberty but still walked to the beat of her own drum.
The tragedy got even heavier when Friday rolled around. The family had to make the agonizing choice to remove Legacy, known to everyone as “Ace,” from life support. Ace was the wild child of the bunch, full of endless energy and smiles. The youngest of the whole crew was little Stone, a sweet baby who brought so much love to the family circle.
Their grandmother, Candace McAllister, was only 36 years old and lived life to the absolute fullest. Adriana described her as the life of the party, someone who brought pure joy into every single room she walked into. Now, the extended family is asking for heavy prayers as they try to figure out how to take their next steps. A special fund has been set up at Fifth Third Bank locations to help cover the sudden funeral expenses.
