Brianna Evans, 26, of Indianapolis, Indiana, was killed in a downtown hit-and-run crash while riding a scooter earlier this month, according to authorities. Prosecutors say Caprice Glass, 40, of Indianapolis, has indicated he intends to plead guilty to a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death or catastrophic injury.
Indianapolis is the capital and largest city in Indiana. The fatal crash occurred at the intersection of East Maryland Street and South Pennsylvania Street in the city’s downtown district.
According to investigators, the collision occurred at approximately 3:15 a.m. on July 11.
Police said Evans was operating a scooter and was within a marked crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle traveling eastbound on Maryland Street.
Authorities reported that the driver fled the scene without stopping.
The Marion County Coroner’s Office later determined Evans died from multiple blunt force injuries sustained after being struck by the vehicle.
Family members identified Evans and described her as a daughter, sister, and mother.
Investigators with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department spent several days working to identify the driver responsible for the fatal collision.
According to court documents, witnesses reported seeing a gray or silver Dodge Challenger driving recklessly before the crash occurred.
Detectives recovered vehicle debris at the scene, including parts bearing Dodge markings. Investigators said a part number traced one of the recovered components to a Dodge Challenger.
A crash reconstruction conducted during the investigation concluded the vehicle was traveling nearly 43 mph immediately before impact in an area where the posted speed limit is 25 mph.
Authorities further determined the vehicle proceeded through a red traffic signal at the intersection of Maryland and Delaware streets after the collision before continuing away from the scene.
Investigators utilized multiple sources of evidence, including city surveillance cameras, license plate reader technology, witness statements, and Real-Time Crime Center footage.
According to court records, detectives eventually identified a silver Dodge Challenger registered in part to Glass.
Authorities said video evidence and driver’s license records further linked Glass to the vehicle observed near the crash scene.
Investigators later located the Challenger concealed beneath a tarp at a residence on South Worth Avenue. Court documents state the vehicle exhibited significant damage consistent with the collision.
Detectives also determined that pieces recovered from the crash scene matched damaged and missing portions of the Dodge Challenger.
Glass was arrested on July 14 in the 4100 block of North Keystone Avenue on a preliminary charge related to leaving the scene of a fatal crash.
During an initial court appearance on July 20, Glass’ attorney informed the court that his client intends to plead guilty to the charge.
A judge subsequently scheduled a change-of-plea and sentencing hearing for Sept. 28 and set Glass’ cash bond at $64,000.
Court records show Glass has prior traffic-related offenses, including speeding, driving without a license, and a 2024 driving-under-the-influence arrest. Records also indicate a prior felony conviction dating to 2004.
The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department credited witness cooperation, community tips, and investigative technology with helping identify the suspect.
