Lakecha Collins, 60, was riding as a passenger in a car driven by 24-year-old Jairon Foster. They were traveling northbound through the 6500 block of the highway, simply going about their evening. In a split second, an oncoming vehicle smashed straight into them. Lakecha lost her life right there at the scene before anyone could try to save her.

Jairon Foster survived the initial horrific impact, but he suffered severe, life-threatening injuries. Paramedics rushed him to University Medical Center in critical condition. Meanwhile, the wreckage around them caught fire, transforming the quiet stretch of highway into a terrifying scene of smoke and flashing red lights.
Inside one of the burning vehicles were two tiny children who had no idea what hit them. A 2-year-old toddler tragically died at the scene. The sheer destruction left first responders facing a frantic race against the spreading flames.
Amid the heat and thick smoke, a brave police officer sprang into action. The officer reached into the burning vehicle and pulled a 3-year-old child out to safety. The child suffered serious injuries and was rushed by ambulance to University Medical Center for urgent care.
The tragedy did not stop with the first crash. The out-of-control wreckage slammed into another vehicle, a pickup truck carrying 28-year-old Alexis Wallace and 19-year-old Aaliyah Wallace. Both young women suffered serious injuries in the violent collision and were rushed to Covenant Medical Center.
