Selina Mendez had her whole life ahead of her at just twenty-six years old. She lived right in the city of Taunton, Massachusetts. Late on a Friday night, her journey cut terribly short. A routine drive turned into a complete nightmare on County Street.
It was around 11:15 p.m. when the disaster occurred. Selina was behind the wheel of a 2001 Honda Accord. She was driving through the southeastern part of the state, not far from her home. Suddenly, her vehicle veered off course in the area of 266 County Street.

The older model sedan slammed violently into a roadside telephone pole. The impact was absolutely devastating. The driver’s side of the vehicle took the entire force of the collision. Heavy metal crushed inward instantly as the car came to a sudden, awful halt.
Emergency dispatchers rushed first responders to the scene after receiving frantic calls about the crash. Police officers arrived quickly and located the heavily damaged Honda resting against the pole. Paramedics did everything they could to render immediate aid to Selina right there on the dark road. They carefully loaded her into an ambulance and sped off to a nearby hospital.
Doctors and emergency room staff fought hard to save her life. Sadly, her physical injuries were just too severe to overcome. Selina passed away shortly after arriving at the medical facility. Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III later confirmed the tragic news to the public.
Another young woman was sitting in the passenger seat during the violent wreck. This twenty-three-year-old passenger managed to survive the horrific impact. She escaped the crushed vehicle with what authorities described as minor injuries. Emergency workers transported her to the hospital as well for a thorough medical evaluation.
Now, a local New England neighborhood is left picking up the pieces. Neighbors look at the damaged pole on County Street and wonder what went wrong. The Bristol County District Attorney’s Office is still searching for answers. For now, a local family is left grieving a beautiful life that ended far too soon on a Friday night.
