A young guy from Deville had his whole life out ahead of him, but it all got cut short in a split second before the sun even came up. Sixteen-year-old Kent Sanson died early Friday morning in a terrible truck wreck. He was just hanging out with a bunch of friends when their ride spun completely out of control on a dark stretch of road.

The whole nightmare went down right around 4:49 a.m. on Hunt Road. Kent was riding along inside a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado with six other young people. They were cruising out near the Dewey Wills Wildlife Management Area when everything took a sudden, devastating turn.

Investigators looked at the scene and found out the truck was heading north when it veered off the pavement. The pickup truck flipped over violently right next to the roadway. Since Kent was not wearing a seat belt at the time, the force of the rollover threw him straight out of the vehicle.

Emergency workers rushed out to the crash site as fast as they could, but there was nothing they could do to save him. Kent suffered massive, fatal injuries from the impact and was pronounced dead right there on the side of the road. It is the absolute worst kind of news any family could ever receive.

Five other teenagers were crammed into that same Silverado, and none of them were buckled up either. The violent crash tossed several of them out into the dark dirt and grass. Luckily, they all survived the rollover, but they walked away with moderate injuries and had to go straight to a local hospital.

The eighteen-year-old driver also sustained moderate injuries and got taken in for medical treatment. Authorities strongly suspect that alcohol or drugs played a big part in why he lost control of the wheel. They took routine blood samples at the hospital to see exactly what was going on in his system.

Now, a local family is left picking up the pieces of a totally preventable tragedy. The community is grieving a life taken way too soon because of a few poor choices on a Friday morning. For Kent’s loved ones, the painful reality of this loss will linger for a very long time.
