It was still pitch black outside when a Saturday morning drive turned into an absolute nightmare in South Carolina. Around 5:45 a.m., right before the sun started coming up, a terrible accident took the life of a young woman. Her name was Sarah Elizabeth Stewart, and she was only 30 years old.
The crash happened out in Spartanburg County along a quiet stretch of Cross Anchor Road, right near Miller Road. That part of the county is usually calm and peaceful at that hour. But in a split second, everything changed forever.
Sarah was sitting in the passenger seat of a truck traveling eastbound down the road. She was just along for the ride on what should have been a routine early morning trip. Nobody could have guessed that her journey would end so suddenly.
According to state troopers, the truck suddenly drifted off the right side of the road without warning. It struck a concrete culvert along the shoulder with great force. The heavy impact flipped the entire vehicle upside down.
Emergency crews rushed out to the scene as soon as the emergency call came in. But when first responders arrived, there was nothing they could do to save Sarah. The Spartanburg County Coroner’s Office officially pronounced her dead right there at the crash site.
The driver of the truck survived the violent crash, but not without getting hurt. Paramedics loaded the driver into an ambulance and rushed them straight to a local hospital. Officials have not yet released any details about how bad those injuries are.
Family members and friends are now left grieving the sudden loss of Sarah while local authorities work to figure out what happened. A forensic examination is scheduled for Monday to help gather more official answers about her death.
Meanwhile, the South Carolina Highway Patrol is keeping the case wide open. Troopers are still looking closely into all the circumstances surrounding the wreck. They say more details will be released to the public as the investigation moves forward.
