It was supposed to be just another late Thursday evening in the Pleasant Grove neighborhood. People were unwinding from the work week, catching up with family, or settling in for the night. But for 20-year-old Stacie Carrasco, those peaceful routine hours suddenly turned into a nightmare.
Just out of nowhere, gunshots tore through the air along the 8800 block of Lake June Road. Stacie was struck down right there on the scene, her young life hanging by a thread in an instant. Nobody ever expects a normal evening out in Dallas to shatter like that, but that is exactly what went down.

Calls flooded in, and Dallas Police Department officers raced over to Lake June Road as fast as their blue lights could carry them. When first responders pulled up, they found Stacie suffering from critical bullet wounds. The urgency on the ground was intense as paramedics scrambled to get her into an ambulance.
Emergency crews rushed Stacie straight to a local hospital, doing everything humanly possible to stabilize her. Doctors and nurses put up a tough fight to save her life in the emergency room. Sadly, despite all those desperate medical efforts, her body couldn’t hold on, and she passed away from her injuries.
Just like that, a young woman with her whole future ahead of her was gone. The news hit her family, close friends, and loved ones like a heavy brick wall. She had so many memories left to make, so many plans waiting to unfold, and now everyone who cared about her is left carrying an unbearable weight of grief.
As the community absorbs the painful shock, investigators are piecing together what happened. Cops ended up locking down a suspect named Maria Morales, a 21-year-old who was later tracked down and booked into the Lew Sterrett Jail on a murder charge. Yet, even with an arrest made, the heartbreak for Stacie’s inner circle remains raw and heavy.
Right now, police are still working the case under file number 107786-2026 to figure out why this deadly encounter happened in the first place. But for those who knew and loved Stacie Carrasco, no police report can fill the painful void left behind. They are hanging onto her memory, holding each other tight, and searching for peace after a life taken far too soon.
