It started out like a typical Saturday night argument, but within an hour, it took a dark and fatal turn. Payden Bloem, a 32-year-old local, lost his life late Saturday evening after a chaotic series of events led to a fatal injury. What began as a heated disagreement ended in a tragic loss that left family and local authorities searching for answers.
The trouble first surfaced around 10 p.m. at the Urban Oaks Apartments, located near 51st Street and Lewis Avenue. Neighbors heard commotion, and officers soon arrived after receiving reports of a domestic disturbance between Bloem and his girlfriend. When police got on scene, they were met with a confusing situation and conflicting stories from the girlfriend and the parents of both people involved.

While officers tried to sort out what had happened at the apartment complex, Bloem slipped away from the scene. He managed to get into his truck and drive off before police could fully figure out the details of the domestic dispute. Officers began searching the surrounding area, hoping to locate him and calm things down.
Not long after, police spotted Bloem’s truck parked near New Haven Avenue and 60th Street. As officers approached the vehicle, they saw Bloem take off on foot, running into the dark neighborhood. Cops searched the streets and alleyways nearby, but he managed to slip away into the shadows once again.
About an hour after the initial domestic call, around 11 p.m., trouble flared up just a few blocks over. Police received an urgent 911 call reporting a burglary in progress at a home near 58th Street and Yale Avenue. Bloem had made his way to the back of the house and smashed through a glass window on the rear door to force his way inside.
The glass shattered violently, leaving Bloem with a deep and severe cut to his arm. When officers reached the home, they found him bleeding heavily from the severe laceration. First responders rushed to give aid, and paramedics quickly transported him to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite the best efforts of medical staff at the hospital, the injury proved too severe, and Bloem passed away shortly after arrival. The Tulsa Police Department is still looking into the whole situation to piece together exactly what led up to the tragic outcome. It was a heartbreaking end to a chaotic night that changed multiple lives in just a matter of minutes.
